brief description
This 8-part foundational course is designed for people interested in art or culture, and those curious in exploring them through the unique perspective of Chinese culture.
Target group
Art and culture enthusiasts, as well as those curious about Chinese artistic expressions and their underlying symbolism.
Objective
to gain a solid foundation in Chinese art symbolism; to be able to interpret and create symbolic messages both within and beyond the realm of Chinese art;
to expand artistic skills and cultural understanding; to be able to use knowledge as a springboard for future, deeper explorations of the diverse aspects of Chinese art and its symbolism based on personal preference.
Content
Theoretical: Chinese Art & its Symbolism, Cultural Nuances, Influence of Ancient Doctrines (Daoism, Confucianism, Buddhism), Traditional and Contemporary Evolution
Practical: Individual artwork, Chinese art symbolism focus, Collaborative theme, Class decision, Diverse interpretations
Learning outcomes
understands the distinct characteristics of Chinese art; is able to interpret and craft artworks that employs the principles of Chinese art symbolism; knows about the religio-philosophy and cultural background of Ancient China that affects Chinese art & its symbolism; understands how Chinese art symbolism remains relevant today.

Graduation requirements
Active participation in classes and the practical activities; create, present and reflect on an individual artwork; independently complete home assignments, read articles and watch videos assigned by the instructor.
