brief description

The aim of the course is to provide participants with knowledge of the main challenges to human rights law resulting from technological and geopolitical developments. The microdegree will give an overview of the concept of new human rights, the theoretical discussion surrounding it and discuss the main new human rights. The graduates will able to participate in discussions in relation to corporate social responsibility and the human rights obligations of businesses.

Target group

Government officials; officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs; members of NGOs; lawyers working on human rights issues; others.

Objective

To aquire a general understanding of the main principles of human rights adjudication in international and domestic courts and in other international organizations. To focus in more detail upon the questions of human rights protection at the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the EU. Likewise the influence of the civil society and human rights protection organizations upon the protection of human rights in the contemporary society will be examined.

Content

Theoretical and practical questions related to the protection of human rights; procedure and case-law of the European Court of Human Rights; procedure and case-law of the Court of Justice of the EU; the activity of human rights protection organizations.

Learning outcomes

knows the theoretical and practical problems related to the protection of human rights; knows the main judgments and procedure in international and domestic courts; has the capability to design protection plan in individual cases; understands the role of the civil society in the protection of human rights.
